Ministry of Agriculture – An Example of Socialist Realism

Ministry of Agriculture is my favorite building designed in Socialist Realism style in Warsaw. It was the mandatory architectural style in the Eastern Bloc countries between 1948 – 1955. The most impressive part of the building is a double colonnade along the Wspólna Street where the main entrance is located.

The building was constructed in 1951-1955, according to the design of Jerzy Grabowski, Stanisław Jankowski and Jan Knothe. It was supposed to be a side of a big square – an agriculture field with the best species of Polish tomatoes, potatos, onions etc. Luckily this ridiculous idea was not implemented.
