Miss Mellow: Pastry to Die For

For last few years we have been experiencing a boom of small, local, and original sweet shops all around the city. They are run by young people who have their own vision, and who interpretate traditional products in their own, modern way. Miss Mellow is one of them. And it`s my number one. I have no words to describe how delicious stuff this place makes, but I`ll do my best. It`s an original mix of pastry from Scandinavia, United States, Poland and France. The owner is actually half Polish half French.

Miss Mellow was opened few years ago on Wilcza Street which belongs to the historical Śródmieście Południowe (Southern Downtown) neighborhood. It`s the most hip part of the city with lost of interesting spots, local designer boutiques, best restaurants, bars, cool galleries etc. The place is very small. You can order, pay and eat outside, or you can sit inside on one of two bar chairs along the wall. In summer there is a garden with few tables outside.

“Pączki” are my favourites here. It`s a very traditional kind of pastry in Poland, but here they are modernized and stuffed with interesting fillings such as vanilla cream, salty caramel and raspberry-rose jam. Ask for “flavour of the month” with some seasonal ingredients like rhubarb jam (like in June 2021, I hope it`ll appear again). Here pączki are full of stuff, not like in many other places, even those considered “traditional”, and dating back to the 19th century (I`m not giving the name cause I try to be polite). Another Miss Mellow`s products to die for: New York Cheesecake, Crème brûlée Cheesecake and Ptyś pistacjowy (pistachio cream puff). I can`t even choose which is the best. In summertime ask for “jagodzianka”, it`s a dough cake stuffed with black berries. It`s very popular in Poland, and here it`s unbelivable. I`m writing this by night and I regret it`s not open 24/7. And trust me, they don`t pay me for writing this 🙂
