Some of his projects are considered modernist classics in Poland. This building was built between 1937-1938, and contained high-end apartments. This is why the Germans took it over during WWII, and why they didn't destroy it. This whole area was their residential and police institutions district. After the Warsaw Uprising of 1944 the scale of the destruction wasn’t as big as in the other parts of the city's downtown.

If you see long lines of people in front of sweet If you see long lines of people in front of sweet shops in February in Poland, it must be Fat Thursday, a movable feast when Poles eat more doughnuts (pączki) than during the whole year (around 100 million). It's known since Pagan times when people celebrated the end of winter and the beginning of spring. They drank wine, ate fat meals including doughnuts, but they were stuffed with bacon and lard. They became sweet in the 16th century.

This Pagan tradition was appropriated by Christians that added a religious meaning to it. It's always celebrated 52 days before Easter, and on the first day of the last week before Lent.

The Royal Castle has reopened in accordance with s The Royal Castle has reopened in accordance with strict sanitary regulations to ensure the safety of both the visitors and the staff: the limit of 100 people per hour and a maximum of 10 visitors in groups.

The Royal Castle is one of the top attractions in Warsaw, but visiting this sprawling landmark on your own can be overwhelming. Let me show you the wonders of this fascinating place, its outstanding architecture, and some of my favourite artworks from the museum's rich collection. Get the most out of your visit and have a real experience.

The Markiewicza Viaduct is an extension of Karowa The Markiewicza Viaduct is an extension of Karowa Street built in the early 1900s. It's a real treasure that you can see by going off the most touristy Krakowskie Przedmieście Street. The designer Stefan Szyller was an extraordinary Warsaw-based architect who also designed the Zachęta Gallery and Warsaw University of Technology (Politechnika Warszawska).

The viaduct is decorated with sculptures by Jan Woydyga: the Warsaw Mermaid and a larger group of statues (pic 3): the woman on the right represents Warsaw. She wears a crown in the shape of the city walls. The man on the left facing the opposite direction symbolizes work, and the man in the middle with the long beard - the Vistula River.

The Krasiński Palace was definitely the greatest The Krasiński Palace was definitely the greatest palace of its time in Warsaw, and its designer Tylman von Gameren was the greatest architect. The palace was built in 1668-1700 for the Voivode of Płock and Referendary of the Crown, Jan Dobrogost Krasiński. Visitors coming to Warsaw down Długa Street probably saw this palace before seeing the Royal Castle. The statue of Marcus Valerius, a Roman general on the tympanum was supposed to make people believe that he was Krasiński's ancestor. Modesty at its best😉

I love old cemeteries, mostly for their amazing at I love old cemeteries, mostly for their amazing atmosphere, but they also reflect local history and architecture trends of different times. Here is one of the most unique graves in Warsaw - the Braeunig Family mausoleum at the Evangelical-Augsburg Cemetery. It was built in 1821 in Neo-Gothic style, and this year it turns 200! It's probably the first cast iron monument in Warsaw. The first pic shows the entrance to the underground crypt. On the top there is an iron lacework chapel which you can actually enter. Next time I must visit it after dark. I wish the crypt was open too☠🕷️⚰
