The Pavillions: Bar Scene Classic

The Pavilions (Pawiliony) is a legendary place in Warsaw that you must see. It’s a courtyard of small bars just behind Nowy Świat Street. It actually has an address of Nowy Świat 22/28 but walking down this street you wouldn’t even notice it exists.

To reach it, you can pass through one of the gates of the houses on Nowy Świat or Foksal Streets or through the empty space between buildings on Smolna Street ( check the map below). It’s a great place to start your evening or relax after long walk during the day. You can also eat in one of my favorite Chinese bars Co Tu (pavillion 21, but open only till 7:00 pm).

There are around 20 small bars where you can try all kinds of beers and shots. My favorite is Pewex (pavillion 26) with Sixties design and old Polish posters and Klaps (pavillion 12a) with walls decorated in “tits” highlighted from inside and vibrators as beer taps and toilette handles. In summer time everyone hangs outside, drinking beer and having conversation. That’s why it’s not that important to get to a specific bar. Pick the one with a smallest line and enjoy the atmosphere .
