If you come to the Polish capital you should visit Wilanów, a stunning summer residence of King of Poland John III Sobieski. If you are also interested in modern art, you will really like the Poster Museum which is just next to the king`s palace.
It`s housed in a stylish modernist pavilion from the sixties but you enter through a preserved fasade of a 19th century horse riding school. The Poster Museum was founded in 1968 as the first poster museum in the world. This branch of modern art is a Polish national pride and it`s recognized in a history of graphic design as “The Polish School of Poster”.
The museum`s collection contains around 55,000 items. The “Polish poster school” is represented by such names as Jan Młodożeniec, Waldemar Świerzy, Franciszek Starowieyski, Jan Lenica and more. The collection contains also foreign artists like Andy Warhol, Ikko Tanaka, Andre Francois, Holger Matthiesm or Milton Glaser. Every 2 years the museum organizes the International Poster Biennale in Warsaw, very prestigous graphic design competition of artworks from all over the world.
