During the Second World War this building housed the headquarters of the Gestapo. The Nazis used the building’s basement as an interrogation location and prison where many Polish people were tortured and killed.
After the war, Polish authorities decided to leave the basement area in tact, leaving thousands of messages from prisoners written on its walls. It`s the only Nazi torture chamber that survived to these day, without changes, in Poland.
